Ruddington’s Tribute to Jo Cox

This weekend the people of Ruddington will come together in celebration of the life of late MP  Jo Cox who was brutally killed on the street in her Batley & Spenborough constituency one a year ago on the 16th of June 2016.

Jo was murdered by a man in the name of nationalism and her husband, Brendan, has called upon all communities in the United Kingdom to come together during the weekend of the 16th to the 18th of June 2017 to commemorate Jo “…to show that we will not be divided and turned against each other by hate, rather that we will use this to unite us.” After the recent, terrible events in Manchester, London and other parts of the world this now seems even more important and relevant.

Everyone in Ruddington, together with their friends and pets, is invited to come to “The Great Get Together” on Ruddington Village Green between 12.30pm and 3.30pm this Saturday 17th June to take part in our community picnic.

Local organiser Paul Reedman told RUDDINGTON.info “Just bring along your food, a blanket, games if you choose and enjoy the weather (hopefully), the atmosphere and good company. Most importantly of all, let’s send out a message to those who would put us in fear and turn us against each other that they will not succeed. This type of event is taking place all over the country so let’s show them what Ruddington can do!”

“We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us.” Jo Cox.

UPDATE SAT 17th JUNE:

Dozens of people turned out on Ruddington Green this afternoon to commemorate the life of MP Jo Cox and what she stood for. And what perfect weather for the picnic, too! For those who found it a little TOO hot those mature trees were a welcome refuge from the sun.

Thanks to Paul Reedman for taking and sending us the photographs below. Can you spot yourself?
